Bio
Was born in Guinea-Bissau, on 29th March 1971. Fernando Ferreira parts from Guinea at the age of 5, bound for Cape Verde in the company of his parents and sisters. His father, a singer of “morna”, influences the way Fernando hears and feels the music. However, it was not only with the influences of the “morna”, the “tabanca”, the “coladera” or the “lundum” that he grew up. It is during his adolescence and through his sisters´ hands that Brazilian music enters into the future singer´s life. Great composers and interpreters, such as, Caetano, Djavan, Gil, Joao Gilberto, among others, became part of a range of musical influences. With his mother Fernando discovers the nostalgia of “fado” and song. In school settings, during high school years, together with some colleagues, he forms different projects of Portuguese folk musuc which allows him access to the music of José Afonso, Fausto, Sérgio Godinho, José Mário Branco, among others, as well as all the heritage of traditional music that resulted from research by Giacometti and Lopes-Graça, among others. An artist of many facets, Fernando enters into the world of theater working with distinct personalities of the Talma art. Filipe la Feria, Juan Font (Els Comediants), Guilherme Filipe, Fernando Gomes and others, passing through multiple genres, from the musical to the drama. He participated in television series, and also cinema, in films such as “O Ralo” by Tiago Guedes and Frederico Serra or “O Heroi” by Zeze Gamboa (prize at the Sundance festival). It is in the context of many experiences and influences that he committed himself to the examinations at the School of Music Conservatory where he later was tutored in Singing by the Honourable Professor Maria Cristina de Castro. He perform as a singer in various cultural facilities, television programs and theaters. The editing of a musical disc is a long pursued dream and one accomplished in good time. His first album, “Mestiço”, is an album that draws influences from Lusofonia (countries and regions where the Portuguese language is spoken). 2020 is the time for he´s new project “Mantenhas”, which in Guinea-Bissau (he´s country) means: Greetings.
