Bio

It was at the “cafés-concerts” in Paris where Dani Selva, son of Portuguese immigrants, made his stage debut. Coming from a family of Fado musicians, his style is fruit of diverse influences. Between Brazilian music covers, reggae and funk, he created his own original themes. When he decided to participate on the contest «Paris jeunes talents» with his very first demo, he seduced the jury with his poetic and distinctive lyrics. The award he won permitted him to independently record his first album «Seconde génération». After a musical journey throughout European stages, he felt the necessity to return to his roots and write his songs in Portuguese again. He signed «O sol da cidade berço» with the Parisian label Microkosmo Music, a song dedicated to his hometown Guimarães, which was elected as the European Capital of Culture in 2012. The respective videoclip was produced by Tiago de Carvalho and has been a tremendous success on social media, which paved the way to radios and national television. In 2013, Dani followed up with the song «Où est l’égalité», which addresses the inequality in French society with its impacting lyrics. Back in Portugal, Dani decided to move to Lisbon to write his new album. In the city of the seven hills he found the inspiration for the first single of his new album. “Passaporte” is a state of mind, a timeless message arising from the warm and enchanting sonority, which blends reggae and the Portuguese guitar. With this topic, Dani has started a new journey across national as well as stages abroad. After being nominated for the artistic revelation Cap Magellan-Trace TV 2016 and having performed with Olavo Bilac (Santos e Pecadores) at the Hôtel de Ville, the Parisian city hall, he presented his new project on the mythical stage of the Bataclan as the supporting act of Resistência.
