Bio
English-Norwegian Caroline Dawson went through different forms of artistic expressions like dance, black/white photography and ceramics before turning to her real passion, -music.
She started playing the piano when she was 6 years old, and in 1997 she composed her first songs, which began as melancholic ballads developing into a mixture of jazz and cabaret.
With her trademark dark voice she gives great emphasis on her lyrics, writing about universal and timeless subjects, some being from personal experience. She has often been compared with the likes of Ute Lemper, Joni Mitchell,Nico of the Velvet Underground and as a female version of Leonard Cohen. Nowadays she does not play the piano, but concentrating on composing and singing.
Her first maxi-single was released in 2001, and her new album “Have you felt the change?”came out in 2012.
In 2002 she was included in “The great Dames of Jazz”,performing at Centro Cultural Olga Cadaval in Sintra, Portugal.She also performed at the Italian Pavillion during the European Football Championship in 2004.Two of her songs were included as soundtracks in 2 different Brazilian soap operas,-“As filhas da mãe” and “Mulheres apaixionadas”.
With her current band she has played in the south of France and various places in Lisbon, amongst them Teatro do Bairro, Pensão Amor and Fábrica Braço de Prata.
