Jazz musician (guitar and piano), composer and producer.
Pedro Madaleno studied at the Hot Club’s music school in Lisbon before 4 years of classical piano studying and completed 6º year of musical education in the National Conservatory in 1984.
Studied at Boston’s Berklee School of Music and in NY at the New School of Social Research - Jazz Studies.
During this period, he gave priority to learn intensively from great musicians of jazz, main mentors being Lee Konitz, Jim Hall, John Abercrombie, and Karl Berger, besides having studied with John Scofield, Ken Werner, Attila Zoller, Ted Dunbar, Harold Danko, Mark Helias and Hal Galper.
While in school, while sharing classroom with them, he played with Brad Mehldau, Chris Potter, Roy Hargrove, Peter Bernstein, Larry Goldings, Christopher Holliday…Pedro is the result of these artists generation.
As a Composer he studied intensively in the USA with Aydin Esen, Ken Werner, Anthony Davis and Karl Berger. He composes since 1986, having already compose more than 350 compositions for its groups and innumerable parts for different arts, videos, surrounding music, choreographies, etc. Currently he writes music under order for dance, video.
He played in ” jam session ” with Arnie Lawrence, Jimmy Cobb, Karl Berger, Andy Gonzalez, Roy Hargrove, Kenwood Dennard, Steve Laspina, Gil Goldstein, Victor Jones, Michael Carvin, Badal Roy, Hal Galper, Edward Simon, Peter Bernstein, Brad Meldhau and Joe Lovano, among others.
Inbetween all his activities in Portugal, Pedro Madaleno is teaching at the Lisbon Hot Club Jazz Club since 1990 many matters such as HarmonyGuitar ,Theory of Gamalataki (rhythm method based on Indian music) Intervallic system of soloing based on the books of Nicolas Slonimsky and Jerry bergonzi, Composition and advanced Harmony,
Pedro is part of many events, as playing with Karl Berger in the Lisbon Festival de Jazz 1990, or with Lee Konitz at Lisbon Hot Club in 1991.
With his projects ”Pedro Madaleno Grupo” and ”Pedro Madaleno Trio ” toured a lot in Portugal, and from Portugal to China !
