Bio
Janeiro is a Portuguese singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. With a sound that blends Portuguese song traditions, Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), jazz, and electronic elements, he has carved out a unique path in Portuguese music. His work bridges lyrical delicacy with sophisticated soundscapes that combine organic and electronic textures. At 18, he left Coimbra to study Jazz and Musicology in Lisbon and soon began exploring his own musical universe. In 2015, he released his debut EP, but it was in 2018 that Janeiro truly broke into the national spotlight with his performance at Festival da Canção, where his song “(sem título)” quickly surpassed one million streams. That same year, he released his first full-length album Frag·men·tos, a collection marked by unforgettable melodies and meticulous production. Since then, Janeiro has deepened his artistic identity, creating projects such as Janeiro Sessions — a series of intimate gatherings where he invited fellow musicians for musical exchanges and conversations. These sessions soon transformed into a unique live concert experience, where the audience shared a living-room-like space with Janeiro and his guest artists. Following the success of Janeiro Sessions, Janeiro released Sem Tempo and Com Tempo (an acoustic album) in 2020. In 2023, he launched Protocolar Vol. II, a collaboration with Brazilian artist Paulo Novaes, and in 2024, he released Fugacidade, an album inspired by his move to the Alentejo region and the concept of impermanence. Fugacidade represents a significant personal and musical evolution, exploring the contrast between city life and nature, acceleration and contemplation. The year 2025 has been one of structuring, planning, and opening new paths. A clear example of this is Fugacidade being nominated for 2025 Latin Grammy Awards for the category Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album, as well as being highlighted by the curators of the renowned NPR Tiny Desk – Alt.Latino, Anna Maria Sayre and Felix Contreras. Janeiro continues to promote Fugacidade across the country, having recently performed at Concertos L in Madeira and at Gulbenkian Jardins de Verão, by invitation of Dino D'Santiago. In addition to his career as a performer and while preparing his new album – set for release in 2026 – Janeiro is also dedicated to music production and sound design, expanding his artistic reach through new sonic explorations and collaborations.
