Bio

Karlos Rotsen is a Martinican pianist and producer. He will start playing as a teenager, accompanying his church choir and there discovers the repertoires of African-American gospel which will strongly influence him. Young pianist of Fort-de-France, he decides to study music at the Instituto Superior of Habana in Cuba. There he meets his master, Andrés Alen. He will be immersed in a bath of rumba, classical music and jazz for six years, during which he is surrounded and completes his training with the best Latin-jazz musicians such as Irakere, Roberto Fonseca and Irving Acao. It was during this cuban period that he started to write his first compositions.  After returning to Martinique he joined Tambou bo Kannal the Martinican folk music group. He decides to move to Paris where he recorded his first album « Bon-Air » influenced by Caribean jazz. He presents this work in several Jazz festivals (France, Colombia, Guyana, Morocco….) and collaborates in different projects namely with Gael Faye, a very popular artist of the french Hip-hop scene. KarlosRotsen lives currently in Lisbon and after collaborating namely with Sara Tavares and Fred (Orelha Negra), he founded with his associates the label "The Sailors", dedicated to the production of urban music. In parallel with all other activities, he continues to be present on stage accompanied by his Caribbean jazz trio.
